Effects of Environmental Stress on the Pollen Viability of Ornamental Tree-Species in the City of Granada (South-Eastern Spain)

Atmospheric conditions, as well pollutants, can induce changes in the viability and germinability of pollen grain. This process frequently occurs cities due to high rate air pollution that alter quality pollen, affecting its biological functions. In this work, effect different environmental stress factors, mainly UV-B radiation polluting gases (CO, NO2 SO2), on maturity four ornamental tree-species present green infrastructure Granada, namely Acer negundo, Carpinus betulus, Olea europaea Cupressus spp. is analyzed. Differential staining techniques were used with fresh collected areas exposure detect intact cell membranes (Trypan blue) state (Pyrogallol red). It was observed species from sectors more exposed registered a low affected by factors such atmospheric pollutants. On contrary, tree growing peri-urban forests presented higher less pollutant factors.
